iPhone 7 Unboxing and First Impressions!

Jullian Robin Sibi 14

Months afterย Apple’s announcement, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus arrived in Philippine shores last November 11, 2016! I really wanted to get one as soon as it was released here. I considered all my options and went for renewing my current contract with Globe. Lo and behold, here is my iPhone 7!

In case you didn’t notice, this is the Jet Black iPhone 7. I got it in the 128GB storage config since this is the lowest available storage I can get this for. (Also, I wanted to get the 128GB model in the first place.)

Without much delay, here is myย iPhone 7 unboxing and first impressions!

iPhone 7 Unboxing!

Lucky for you, I made a video of the unboxing! With this, I can focus more on my first impressions of the device. Enjoy!

It would be nice if you could leave a like for this video and SUBSCRIBE to the YouTube channel! I’m putting vlogs on my experiences with the iPhone 7. It’s gonna be a fun ride!

First Impressions

iphone 7 first impressions

Unlike previous iPhones that I’ve owned, I have a lot of thoughts regarding the iPhone 7. This phone is a result of many decisions that Apple made. I think they’re doing this because they want iPhone users to get used to this change before the bigger change that may arrive with the iPhone 8 next year.

For my first impressions, I’ll simply divide it into two parts: Things I Like, and Things I Don’t Like.

Things I Like

iPhone 7 in Jet Black!

I was initially torn between Black or Jet Black. It really annoyed me because I couldn’t pick right away. On one hand, Black really looks stealthy. In one aspect, Jet Black just SCREAMS premium! After days of debating with myself, I decided to get the Jet Black one. I did not regret one bit.

Jet Black really looks shiny and makes the iPhone 7 more premium than it already is! It also helps that the glossy finish of this model helps with the grippiness of the phone. And honestly, it really is blacker than the Black model.

I’m so happy that the iPhone 7 has stereo speakers! Good thing they did the intelligent speaker system on the iPads first so that they can perfect it on this phone.

iphone 7 home button

I was initially surprised with the new home button. It isn’t actually a button anymore. It’s now a flat sapphire glass surface that integrates with the iPhone 7’s new Taptic Engine. The engine itself gives that “clicky” feel. The more I used the new button though, the more I like the feeling.

The iPhone 7 is FAST. It’s no joke. It really feels faster than the iPhone 6! There wasn’t a time where it slowed down significantly. If you’re a 6s user though, I suspect that there would only be a slight difference in the speed department.

Things I Didn’t Like

iphone 7 headphone jack adapter

Let’s get one thing out of the way RIGHT NOW: I am annoyed by the loss of the headphone jack. I am annoyed in the sense that now I can’t charge the phone and listen to music at the same time. YES, I knew what I signed up for, but it’s still annoying nonetheless. Also, the adapter IS SO SMALL. I could easily lose this thing if I didn’t attach it permanently to my Marshall Major II headphones!

JUST LOOK AT THIS!

Enough about that! Maybe I’ll get over it when I have the chance to get the Major II Bluetooth headphones. Hehe.

I didn’t test the camera fully yet, but so far I feel okay with it. I don’t think there’s a big difference between the camera on the iPhone 7 than the 6s. The bad part is that Samsung and Google have actually caught up to the iPhone in this regard, so deciding solely on the camera alone isn’t enough.

Another thing I was really annoyed with was a software feature in iOS 10: Raise to Wake. I have to admit, it is generally useful but it performs poorly when you just put the phone on the table. It would wake up even though I didn’t want it to. I hope Apple does something about this in a future software update.

Those were my iPhone 7 unboxing and first impressions. Is there anything you would want me to focus on for the review? Do you have an iPhone 7 now? If so, what color did you get? Sound off in the comments section below.

  1. Wow, you’ve got a 128GB phone! Personally I like the iPhone 7 better than its bigger brother but I wished they stuffed the great specs of the iPhone 7 Plus camera into this one. ๐Ÿ™

  2. Not really a fan of the iphone 7. But I do believe that they’re preparing for a bigger change. Hope that is not too drastic for comfort. Nevertheless, I’d like to upgrade to a higher phone than my Iphone 5. The higher models like 6s is way faster than what I have. Huhu

  3. No, iPhone 7 now.. but not interested either. ๐Ÿ˜€ but to all iPhone lovers.. it will help them.

  4. Oh wow, it looks awesome! I don’t even know if I can afford to buy a new iPhone. I’m stuck with my 5C haha. So long as this phone still works, I won’t be changing phones anytime soon. Hopefully though, I’d be able to buy the latest iPhone if ever ma deads na ni sya haha.

  5. Rea Rea

I am amazed that there’s blacker than black. LOL. But glad you liked the jet black. It’s quite weird not to have a headphone jack on your phone. I’m thinking the future iPhones are all gonna be voice-activated with only one button left. Innovation is crazy!

  6. I would love it if you’d do like a side by side comparison of the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 7 in terms of performance. ๐Ÿ™‚ Lucky you for getting the latest on Apple Mobile. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. iPhone 7 is great. The new home button is better than on the previous designs because it may prevent from actually damaging the button. I totally agree with you, the cable really is annoying and you can’t listen to music while charging and I do that most of the time! In terms in the camera, iPhone 7 plus has better functions and better lens. Not just because of its dual lens but with its capability for photography.

  8. All things considered, it is still quite a premium device. Specially with the glossy black, rounding off its overall premium look! Still Android all the way, but I can totally respect the competition still. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Wow, I only wish to own an iPhone someday cause I really can’t afford. This must be really an exciting unboxing. You must be enjoying this phone.

  10. Kat Kat

I really wanna touch and use your phone buuuutttt, something’s telling me not to (yet) kay it’s either masuya ko nia matintal ko mu buy (bisag way kwarta hahaha) orrr maka sala ko hahahahaha so yah. Will wait nalang for iPhone 8 hahaha

  11. Great unboxing thoughts you have there. I agree more on the things you didn’t like about iPhone 7 esp on the removal of the headphone jack plus the adapter is very small. I hate it too coZ I usually listen to music even when Im charging the phone. But, I think I would have to wait for iPhone 8s Plus to get another phone. My 6s Plus is still doing its bidding and when put side by side with iphone 7, they dont have much of the difference.

  12. Looks cool! I have been a user of many phone brands before I got a secondhand iPhone (4?) about two years ago. Since they were part of the lowest Sun plan, I would get a smartphone belonging to the lower end. When I got the iPhone, I was totally amazed at how fast it was and how many apps I can still store despite it being with its owner for 2 years already. To own a brand new iPhone must be heaven. Haha. I’m not really drooling over it though and that goes the same for all the other new phones in the market.

  13. No headphone jack! no headphone jack! I am no headphone person so I really do not mind that feature. I really like everything about Iphone 7 except its price. If I win a raffle I would surely use it. If I win the lotto, I will give all Hibsters an Iphone except the ones who are using a 7 already. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Wow. Congratulations on your new iPhone! I hope to see more of this on your future posts with its camera features.
