Wow. Watching the Apple September 2019 event livestream was something! There were a lot of announcements made during the event! One of which was the successors to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Say hello to the first Pro iPhones: the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max!
What’s New With the iPhone 11 Pro?
Just by looking at that picture, you can already see two distinct changes. The first Pro iPhone now comes in four colors: Space Gray, Silver, Gold, and the new Midnight Green! It may look like it’s still glass, but this phone now comes in a matte finish! I guess MKBHD is finally getting his matte black wish.
That Triple Camera Goodness!
Another change that they made is in the camera department. From two cameras on its predecessor, the iPhone 11 Pro now has three rear cameras! The new system consists of a 12MP Wide Camera, a 12MP Telephoto Camera, and a new 12MP Ultra Wide Camera!
Since this is a “Pro” iPhone, the camera tricks on these phones are nuts. You can take photos in different optical zoom lengths (similar to the Huawei P30 Pro and others). You can even take advantage of an upcoming new camera feature called Deep Fusion! This phone takes 9 images of varying exposures. It then uses machine learning to generate the best image based on the combination of the 9 images! Sounds awesome, really!
Apple also showed off the prowess of the A13 Bionic chip through photos and videos! There was even a showcase of the new Filmic Pro app that takes full advantage of ALL FOUR CAMERAS of the iPhone 11 Pro! With both, you can now shoot with each of the four cameras ALL AT ONCE! It became a game-changer based on the reactions of all the video creators.
Like the changes with the iPhone 11, there isn’t a whole lot of big changes in the iPhone 11 Pro. I still don’t think it justifies the $999 price tag (besides the typical branding thing). Good thing the battery life on the 11 Pro is 4 hours more than the iPhone Xs. The 11 Pro Max gets 5 hours more than the iPhone Xs Max.
